I made this piece in a hotel room in Luxembourg. My husband was working on a project for an agency of the European Union. I had two weeks to get ready for my first solo show so I had brought along anxiety and a bag full of art and sewing supplies. I remember how excited I felt working on this piece. Although untrained in embroidery, sewing or beading, my hands knew what to do. This expresses my hunch that techniques — and perfecting techniques —often compromises the innate truth lying underneath.

Margolit means jewel or gem in Hebrew.
