Losing Green

Each segment: 32.5”h x 18.5”w x 3.5”d

Mixed media

I started this project in the fall of 2018 and followed the metamorphosis of the leaves from greens to yellows, oranges, purples, and reds. I hoped to translate my visceral and visual pleasure into yarn, fiber, fabric, and beads. I learned that this biological process is called abscission; With less sunlight, there is less photosynthesis and, consequently, less chlorophyll produced. Other pigments (that have been there all along) make their short-lived cameo appearances.

The pieces are mounted on reclaimed white oak custom cut to accommodate these pieces.
