After a life-changing 2016 quilt tour of Japan, I had a cache of intense visual impressions. I also had a stash of fabrics, vintage kimonos, fibers and buttons. I had these organized in boxes and regarded them as a not to be touched shrine.

As a lover of everything Japanese, I am profoundly moved by Japanese aesthetics and philosophy. I sought after wabi sabi before I had ever heard the word and it remains my quest.

After almost two years, I got up the courage to unlock the shrine and use the materials. Arimatsu is the result.

Wabi sabi is the beauty of things impermanent, imperfect and incomplete.

Arimatsu is a town famous for its shibori techniques.
